The timetable for applying for a community school nursery place has changed. In previous years, application deadlines have been staggered across the year, but now all applications have to be submitted by one deadline date.
Parents of children aged between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2009 who would like their child to attend a Merton community primary school nursery will need to get their applications in by 15 January 2011. Their child may start nursery in the term after they turn three, which could be in September 2011, January 2012 or April 2012, depending on when their third birthday is.
Merton community primary schools offer nursery classes for part-time early learning and childcare places, allowing 3 and 4 year old children to learn and play with other children in a safe and structured environment, helping to give them a head start when they begin school.
The Merton Starting Nursery 2011/12 brochure is now available. For a copy, parents can visit their local primary school or children’s centre or download a copy online at http://www.merton.gov.uk/admissions and complete and return the application form by 15 January 2011.
Councillor Maxi Martin, cabinet member for children’s services said: “Many parents will be keen to secure a place for their child at one of Merton’s community nursery schools for 2011 and 2012 and it’s important that they start getting their applications together now.
“We’re encouraging all parents with children between the ages of 18 months and two years to get their applications underway.”
