Cabinet member awarded MBE

Leader of Merton Council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis is sending out his congratulations to Merton Cabinet member Councillor Edith Joan Macauley JP, who was honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year’s Honours List.

Councillor Macauley is has been a Labour Councillor in Merton since May 1998 and held positions in Cabinet for Housing Management and Support in 2000/2001 and Housing in 2001/2002. A former Mayor, Councillor Macauley is currently serving as the Cabinet member for Community Safety, Engagement and Equalities and is the ward councillor for Lavender Fields. Councillor Macauley is also a Justice of the Peace and received her MBE for contribution to the community in the London Borough of Merton.

Leader, Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: “This is fantastic news and I would like to congratulate Councillor Macauley on behalf of the residents of our borough and Merton Council. For over 13 years Councillor Macauley has worked with residents of Lavender Fields and across Merton and it is great to see her hard work recognised.”
