Tennis fun in Merton

Merton’s annual Tennis Fun Day in Wimbledon Park will be held on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June 2012.

Every year Merton hosts the event to get children involved in tennis partnering with the Lawn Tennis Association and the All England Lawn and Tennis Club. Friday will be for Merton school children, with Saturday open to all children.

There will be twice as much tennis fun this special 2012 summer as both the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and the Olympic tennis event will be hosted in the borough.

Once Merton has finished celebrating the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Merton will welcome a change of dressing across the borough as a whole new set of colours and dressings will be erected marking our host borough status and welcoming the Olympic Tennis event from the week beginning 9 July 2012.

Cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper said: “What a summer it’s going to be for sport in Merton! The Championship and the Olympics! Thanks, as ever, to the AELTC and LTA for helping to get our children interested in tennis. And I can’t wait to see the Borough dressed in its Olympic colours!”
