Merton calls on all job hunters

On Thursday, 18 October at 10am, Jobs Fair 2012 will open its doors to offer the complete package for any Merton resident looking for a job.

Working with partner organisation, Your Career Your Choice, Merton Council’s Housing Strategy team has brought together around 20 employers including big names Sainsbury’s, Argos, Greggs and the three armed services. These organisations are actively recruiting and will be looking for suitable candidates at the Merton Jobs Fair 2012.

A similar number of specialist training organisations will also be attending, offering a range of basic skills training, pre-apprenticeship preparation and a broad range of academic and vocational qualifications.

The event will be hosted at three neighbouring venues, Pollards Hill Library, the New Horizon Centre and Pollards Hill Youth Centre. In addition to exhibitors’ stalls, there will be skills taster sessions covering plumbing, carpentry, first aid, hair and beauty, drama and music production. There will also be workshops on improving employability, CV writing, online job searching, creating business start-ups, fitness for work and volunteering.

Merton’s cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper has helped to drive the project forward: “This is a great opportunity for residents who are looking to get that extra bit of assistance to get a job. We all know the competition for jobs is fierce at the moment, but this event is designed to help you get the edge. It’s also an advert for all the other help that’s available to jobseekers throughout Merton. Come along and change your life for the better!”
