Merton is having an adoption information meeting at Morden Civic Centre on Tuesday 13 November.
The event, starting at 6pm, welcomes those who may be thinking about adopting and need more information on how to make the first step. A presentation will be shown about the adoption process and the children in Merton who need adoptive parents. Visitors are free to speak with people who are already adoptive parents and social workers who will be able to answer any burning questions they may have.
Merton will also have a stall at this year’s Winter Wonderland on Thursday 29 November. Situated at the Piazza, Wimbledon Broadway, people can go and have an informal chat about adoption with Merton staff and experienced adopters. The theme for this event is ‘Stop the waiting’.
Merton’s cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Maxi Martin said: “These events are great opportunities for those who may be thinking about adopting but need more information to make that big decision. Merton has excellent staff who can answer all their questions and adoptive parents who know first hand what adopting a child is really like.”
Luisa Ryan said: ‘Speaking to Merton social workers and other parents of adopted children helped us to clarify whether we wanted to adopt or not. The Social Workers were able to answer any questions we had and also suggest some background reading. Following the adoption evening we decided to go ahead and adopt.’
