Web industry experts have rated Merton Council’s website in the top four across all London councils.
For the second year running, Merton Council’s website achieved the highest possible rating of four stars in the ‘Better Connected’ report by Socitm, the professional association for public sector ICT management. This rating puts Merton Council’s website in the top 9% of UK local authorities, and the top four London authorities. Areas of the council website that were singled out for praise included home care, planning, housing services and school nurseries.
Published on 1 March, Socitm’s report was based on a detailed review of all UK local authority websites by industry experts. The report also showed that the percentage of our residents who used our website (38%) was the second-highest in the country, after Bracknell Forest.
A separate Socitm survey of 190,000 UK council website users called Insight Website Take-up 2012, showed 80% of customers who used Merton’s website found what they were looking for. This was the highest in London and 17th highest in the country, excluding councils who had less than six months’ data.
Merton council’s cabinet member for performance and implementation, Councillor Mark Betteridge said: ‘Our website offers residents a convenient way to access information about our services as well as helping them to report issues and pay bills more easily. I’m glad to hear that the website has been rated so highly and that residents are finding it easy to use. If anyone is trying to find out about our services or needs to talk to someone at the council, I would encourage them to try and find what they’re looking for on the website.’
