Mayor of Merton, Councillor Krystal Miller, is calling on residents for inspiration and ideas on how to transform areas of the borough as part of a new initiative, Challenge the Mayor.
Councillor Miller is looking for suggestions for places in Merton that can be transformed by her and a team of volunteers in a weekend to benefit local residents. Anyone living or working in Merton can propose an idea. Activities might include cleaning up a community space, painting and decorating, gardening and bringing disused areas back to life.
During her Mayoralty, the Mayor wants to place a strong focus on volunteering. This is the first Challenge the Mayor project and Councillor Miller will encourage local residents and businesses to get behind the idea by donating materials and giving their time and skills.
Mayor of Merton, Councillor Krystal Miller said: ‘National Volunteering Week seemed the perfect time to launch this project. I loved the TV show Challenge Anneka when I was younger. It seemed like a great way to bring businesses and the community together, giving them a common focus as we tackle a local problem. I am really looking forward to seeing what ideas people come forward with.’
Application forms can be found at http://www.merton.gov.uk/challengethemayor and the deadline for applications is midday on Friday 26 July.
