Morden library to reopen on Friday 12 July

A fallen pane of glass from the roof of Morden Library has caused it to close today. A clear up operation is currently underway and staff will be working through the night so the library can reopen for business tomorrow morning (Friday 12 July).

A full investigation into what caused the incident will be carried out. The library building was built in the 1980s and is separate to the main part of the civic centre which was built in the 1950s.

Councillor Nick Draper, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture said: “This was a freak incident in which fortunately no one was harmed. The staff were quick to act and closed the library immediately. We’ll be carrying out a full investigation into what caused the pane of glass to fall and thank our library users for their patience while we prepare the library to be reopened tomorrow.”
