Merton parks have seen record numbers of visitors this summer as Britain enjoys some of the best summer weather for nearly a decade. The main attractions have been the council’s paddling pools with Wimbledon Park splash pool proving particularly popular, drawing huge numbers over the last fortnight.
Spending time at your local park is also a great way to keep fit and healthy and there is something for everyone to enjoy. Merton has a number of green gyms which are free to use, as well as fun play areas for children. There are bowls clubs to join – fun for all ages, beach volleyball courts with Olympic legacy sand, tennis courts, pitch and putt and even crazy golf.
For 8-16 years old, there’s also a full and exciting programme of Merton Active Plus events, many of which take place in our parks.
Or why not simply take a picnic in one of award winning Green Flag parks, and sit in the shade of a tree and relax. Don’t forget to drop your litter in the bins provided and look out for our hi-tech solar bins which we’ve put in our most popular parks.

Merton Council cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration Councillor Andrew Judge said: “We’re so lucky in Merton to have lots of parks and green spaces. It’s wonderful to see just how popular our parks and green spaces are with people of all ages. They offer something for everyone. We all value them and it’s been great to celebrate our Green Flag wins earlier this week. Hopefully we’ve got a few more summer days left to get outdoors and enjoy them to the full.”
