It’s been a great summer but as the days get shorter, don’t despair – there’s plenty to do in Merton this autumn whatever your age.
It’ll be a blast
Culture Blast is a new urban arts programme which launches on 13 October in Wimbledon Library with live DJ sessions, dub workshops and a look at hip-hop through the years. There’ll also be a cinema screening, graffiti art session and the chance to create your own electronic music. Find out more at www.merton.gov.uk/cultureblast.
Have an adventure
If you’re aged 8 to 16 Merton’s adventure playground in Acacia Avenue, Mitcham is a great place to let off steam. Scale the giant climbing frame or sample the massive swing and trampoline, explore the tree house and wigwams or try indoor activities including table tennis. With play workers on site it’s a safe place to express yourself and be independent. It’s open Tuesday to Friday, 3.30pm to 6.30pm and Saturdays, 12.30pm to 6.30pm. Sunday mornings are family sessions for disabled children. Merton’s BMX track is also just next door where your children can get involved in pay and play sessions, so why not make a day of it and visit both?
Half term action
Even if you’ve just gone back to school, it’s never too early to plan for half term when there will be a range of courses for children over eight years old as part of Merton’s Active Plus programme, including sport and leisure sessions from BMX to boot camp, arts clubs and plenty of watersport action at Wimbledon Park. Find out more at www.merton.gov.uk/activeplus.
