Residents who have gardening skills are being asked to help transform a disused area at the back of the Citizens Advice Bureau in Mitcham into a useful outdoor space as part of Challenge the Mayor, a new community programme bringing together residents and businesses to help transform a small corner of Merton in a weekend.  Once transformed, this space will be used by over 100 Citizens Advice Bureau volunteers at the centre, clients and other local community groups.

The first stage of the Challenge will run over three days, from Friday 25 October to Sunday 27 October 2013. Volunteers are required for a few hours on each day to help clear and prepare the site, in preparation for the garden makeover in early spring 2014. No experience is necessary and the council is providing the necessary tools.  All our gardeners need is enthusiasm and energy.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor Krystal Miller, said: “The site has so much potential but the weeds come up to your knees. There are so many volunteers and residents who visit the Mitcham CAB and could make good use of this space. If there are any keen gardeners or people who would enjoy the satisfaction of seeing a small plot transformed, then please get in touch. We would love for you to get involved and help make a difference.”

If you would like to take up the Mayor’s challenge and volunteer your skills, please contact Beau Fadahunsi at Volunteer Centre Merton on 020 8640 7355 or email beau@volunteercentremerton.org.uk
