Merton Council is investing in Wimbledon Library, giving the much-loved place a makeover to improve the look and feel of the building, making it more comfortable for library customers.
Starting today, the building will be redecorated throughout. The refurbishments mean customers will benefit from additional study space, more space for lap top users to take advantage of the free wi-fi, extra computers for customers to use and a relaxing seating area at the front of the library. The children’s section will be treated to a makeover too.
The new improved Wimbledon Library will be unveiled mid-December and in the meantime, services and opening times at Wimbledon Library will remain the same. During the refurbishment works there may be some disruption to services but this will be kept to a minimum.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper said: “I’m very glad this refurbishment, which has been planned for a long time, is going ahead. Wimbledon Library is already a great place for residents to visit and will be even more comfortable, relaxing and suited to our library users once the refurbishments are complete.
“This makeover is testament to the fact that, not only are our libraries considered to be amongst the best in London, they are always improving and striving to meet the needs of the local community. I look forward to helping out and seeing the place when it’s complete!”
