As the New Year gets underway, Merton Council has officially confirmed that Garden Primary School will become a Harris Academy.
The date from which the Harris Federation will take over the running of the school is scheduled for the 1 September 2014.
Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: “I am delighted that the school is set to become part of the Harris Federation as they have a track of record of turning schools around and of high performing schools. This will be of great benefit to the local area where they already run the local secondary school Harris Merton, rated outstanding by Ofsted. It will also be a huge boost to the children who attend the school, and by becoming an academy we believe it will drive up standards. This will be a turning point for the school as it looks positively towards providing excellent education in the future.”
Harris Federation Chief Executive Sir Daniel Moynihan said: “We are very pleased to be working with Merton Council and the staff and governors of Garden Primary School as it becomes a Harris Primary Academy. We look forward to working closely with the School in bringing it into our Federation to sit alongside our other local schools including the outstanding Harris Academy Merton.”
