Merton’s Young Advisors were honoured at a special ceremony last night.
The Young Advisors Excellence Awards held at Saams Function Hall in Morden saw young people receive awards from cabinet member for children services, Councillor Maxi Martin, who was also a guest speaker, director of children, schools and families Yvette Stanley and Councillor James Holmes.
Young Advisors are young people aged 13-19 who show community leaders and decision makers how best to engage with young people within the community and improve the services for their peers.
On the night there were presentations from One Mitcham Young Advisors, Health Young Advisors and Volunteer Centre Merton Young Advisors as well as words from special guest Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhain McDonagh. Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond also attended.
Councillor Maxi Martin said: “Our Young Advisors are key in Merton to having a say on local issues and ensuring we engage with young people in a way they can relate to. They are a vital link between young people in the borough, community leaders and decision makers.”
