Love Parks Week has kicked off in Merton with the opening of a new interactive water play area.
Visitors to Tamworth Rec, Figges Marsh, can look forward to brand new water sprays and play facilities following improvement works to the water play area after it was officially opened by the Mayor of Merton Councillor Agatha Akyigyina. The opening event helped to mark Love Parks Week which is taking place from Friday 25 July – Monday 3 August.
Funding for the interactive water play area was provided by Merton Council and a donation from a generous contributor, who wishes to remain anonymous, in memory of their daughter Elisabeth. A memorial has been placed beside the water play area in her memory.
The new addition to Tamworth Rec joins the borough’s other seven paddling pools and interactive water play areas across the borough which were all opened in time for the school summer holidays last week.
Merton’s paddling pools will open from 10am to 5pm every day in the summer holidays until 31 August. Wimbledon Park’s interactive water play area has been open since May and will also remain in use until 31 August.
Each year, Merton Council invests more than £50,000 in its paddling pools to cover the cost of water, electricity, water treatment, staffing and maintenance.
Mayor of Merton, Councillor Agatha Akyigyina, said: ‘Opening the new water play area at Tamworth Rec was great fun and I know that local children and families will really enjoy it over the summer. This week is Love Parks Week so make sure you get down to your local park and make the most of what’s on offer!’
