Merton Council is calling on residents to be part of the borough’s Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) forum.
The forum is about to be re-formed and there will be an initial meeting tomorrow on 18 March in committee rooms D & E at the civic centre in Morden from 7pm.
Being a member of the LGBT Forum is an opportunity to make sure the needs of lesbians, gay, bisexual or transgender people are considered across services provided by the public sector and when decision-making bodies such as the council or the clinical commissioning group develop policies or stage events.
Anyone is welcome to be part of the forum as long as they commit to taking an active role within it. To help run the forum, the council is looking for people with a diverse range of skills, from finance and fund raising, IT and Web design, Social Media and events planning.
Merton Council cabinet member for community safety, engagement and equalities Councillor Edith Macauley said: “This is a great opportunity for people, particularly those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, to get involved with helping ensure the council and other public organisations consider their issues and needs in policy and service development. The forum will provide a voice for Merton’s LGBT community and a support network for members . Merton is a diverse borough and we want to make sure that this wonderful diversity is reflected in the council’s and other organisations’ business.”
