Wimbledon Station will be alive with the sound of music today (Tuesday 1 September), helping commuters fend off the post-summer blues as they get back to their routine journey to and from work.
The Derazey Trio, a London-based string group, will be serenading commuters with classical favourites between 4pm and 7pm on the main concourse of the station.
The Royal College of Music students will be offering a taste of Merton Council’s Classics in the Park concert, which is all set to be staged in Wimbledon Park on 11 and 12 September. Tickets to see the acclaimed City of London Sinfonia and the programme of musical treats they will be playing, are available online at www.merton.gov.uk/classicsinthepark.
Violinist, Julia Liang, said: “We’re all really looking forward to playing in Wimbledon Station. We’ll be playing popular pieces such as Eine kleine Nachtmusik and selections from Beethoven’s Serenade for string trio. We hope that the music will make the return from the summer holidays a bit more pleasant. Having seen the programme for Classics in the Park, I’d definitely say go. Even if you’ve never been to a classical concert before, you may be surprised by how much you love it.”
