Ofsted published its report on Raynes Park High School this week, which is full of praise for staff and pupils alike, giving the school a “Good” rating.
The school is now rated good in every category: Effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; pupils’ personal development and behaviour. Special note was made of the progress that students make in both English and maths and the fact that their performance continues to improve on previous years. The report also cites the school as being a “peaceful and harmonious community”.
The headteacher and governors play a key role in ensuring staff and pupils are aware of the high expectations around the quality of teaching and educational achievement respectively.
On the sixth form, Ofsted highlights how teachers promote good learning and achievement and that students are well informed about the opportunities that are open to them once they leave school.
The “Good” awarded to Raynes Park High School means that 100% of secondary schools in Merton are either Good or Outstanding. This compares with the national average of 73% and the London average of 85%.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: “This is wonderful news for students, parents and teaching staff alike and is testament to the hard work and support that everyone has brought to the school. Each year we see continuing improvement in our schools, coupled with the commitment of our teachers and students. We have seen a 20% increase in students gaining five or more GCSEs A*-C including English and maths over the last six years. Merton is a great place to learn with all our secondary schools now rated outstanding or good by Ofsted.”
Raynes Park’s new headteacher, Kirsten Heard, said: “This Ofsted report is wonderful news for Raynes Park High School and I am very proud of the hard work of all the staff, the students and their families who support them so well during their time at Raynes Park. I am looking forward to continuing to work with everyone at the school to ensure our students achieve as highly as they possibly can and to see them develop into well-rounded young people who will play a full role in society.”
