Council on standby following burst water main

Thousands of homes in Pollards Hill, Mitcham are without water following a burst water main in the south London area.

The cause is still unknown but Thames Water is in the process of diverting the water supply predicting reconnection in 2-3 hours.

The council’s emergency planning team has been liaising with Thames Water and is on standby should any appropriate action need to be taken to look after any vulnerable people as a result of the water supply being cut off. Thames Water have provided bottled water to those most in need and advised everyone else that if water is not restored after 12 hours, they will supply bottled water to customers who contact them. Elderly vulnerable people can also register with all the utility companies as a vulnerable person to ensure they are treated as a priority during these types of incidents.

As a result of the water supply being cut off, the council has taken the precautionary measure of closing Pollards Library until further notice.
