Get involved in Crossrail2 debate

Merton Council is encouraging residents and businesses to get involved in the Crossrail 2 consultation which is currently underway. Deadline for responses is Friday 8 January.

The consultation includes details on proposals for Wimbledon Station, Raynes Park Station and Motspur Park Station as well as the Tooting/Balham area.

As part of their consultation, representatives from the Crossrail2 team will be holding public drop-in sessions as follows:

Wimbledon Piazza, The Broadway

Wednesday 2 December: midday until 8pm

Thursday 3 December: midday until 8pm

At the drop-in sessions, residents and businesses will have the opportunity to talk to representatives from the Crossrail2 team about the proposals and to have their questions answered.

The proposed railway and the works involved in bringing Crossrail2 to Merton will have a significant impact on Wimbledon town centre as well as other parts of the borough and the residents who live there and in the surrounding areas.

Leader of Merton Council Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: “Crossrail2 is a hugely exciting prospect for Wimbledon with the potential to bring millions of pounds worth of business, jobs and transport infrastructure to the borough.

“With any project this size, there will inevitably be a large amount of disruption during the works. While we remain optimistic about what Crossrail2 can bring, all party group leaders will work together and with the Crossrail2 Team to ensure we get the best deal for Wimbledon and its residents.  We hugely value our existing businesses and will work with the Merton Chamber of Commerce and Love Wimbledon to ensure the businesses in Wimbledon get the best deal too.

“The council will be responding to the consultation in due course.”

The consultation is on the Crossrail 2 website.
