Mayor to host celebration of Merton’s music talent

Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung, will be holding a concert on Saturday 30 January, at the St Mark’s Church of England Academy in Mitcham.

Called Winter Warmer, the concert will be produced by Merton Music Foundation. Young musicians of all ages and levels from across Merton schools and members from Merton Music Foundation’s Youth Music programme will perform a variety of choral and instrumental pieces in a range of styles.

Tickets are now on sale for £6 and can be booked visiting merton.gov.uk/charityevents or by calling 0208 545 3517. Children under the age of five can attend for free. Refreshments will also be sold at the concert.

Councillor David Chung said: “This event is one not to be missed as it will showcase the emerging talent of young people in Merton and I would ask everyone to come along and support it. Music has the power to inspire and move people. Learning to play an instrument and singing can be so beneficial to children and is something many of them can continue into adulthood.”

Merton Music Foundation CEO, John Mander, said: “We work with so many talented young people in the borough and it’s great to have the Mayor of Merton’s support. Being part of a youth music group is a great way to make friends and being part of your local youth music organisation gives young people incredible opportunities to perform not only in Merton but on internationally-renowned stages such as the Royal Albert Hall. I am looking forward to seeing as many people as possible at the concert.”
