A By-Election for the Figges Marsh Ward will take place on Thursday 5 May following the resignation of Councillor Peter Walker.
The nomination process for candidates is now open and will end of Thursday 7 April, 4pm. Candidates will be announced the next day, Friday 8 April.
For residents unable to visit a polling station on the day, postal voting application forms are available to download from the council website http://www.merton.gov.uk/postal_vote_application16.pdf or by contacting the Electoral Services helpline on 020 8545 3407. The deadline for applications is on 5pm on Tuesday 19 April.
Residents can also apply to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf. The deadline for this is 5pm on Tuesday 26 April.
To be able to vote, residents must be registered and those who aren’t have until Monday 18 April to do so. Polling cards will be delivered to eligible electors around the start of April.
Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Merton Council, Ged Curran said: “Following the resignation of Councillor Peter Walker, I have been asked by the local government electors to hold a By-Election so that the electorate can vote for a new Figges Marsh councillor. As Returning Officer I can announce that a Figges Marsh By-Election will take place on Thursday 5 May.”
