Council to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday with beacon lighting

The Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung will light a beacon at a free family event on the Wimbledon Piazza to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday celebration on 21 April.

The event kicks off at 6.20pm starting a programme of fun-packed live entertainment lined up by Merton Council. The beacon lighting takes place at 7.30pm.

Performances on the night include Pipe Major Tony Kelly on the bagpipes, Greensleeves Morris Men, a George Formby tribute performed by Paul Casper and classical trio, Blue Topaz.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung, said: “I look forward to residents joining me to mark the Queen’s landmark birthday along with local authorities across the country. I would encourage everyone to come along enjoy a fun-packed evening in the centre of Wimbledon.”
