Over 20,000 fans turned out to support AFC Wimbledon at Wembley on Monday including Leader of the Council, Cllr Stephen Alambritis

Mayor of Merton, Cllr Brenda Fraser said: “The atmosphere at Wembley was incredible with thousands of many fans turning out to support AFC Wimbledon. As Mayor it was an honour and privilege to be invited to Wembley and be one of the first to congratulate the players personally for their amazing achievement. In return, I am inviting the club’s management, players, staff and volunteers to join me for a Mayoral reception later this summer to thank everyone involved – AFC Wimbledon is the pride of Merton.”

AFC Wimbledon Chief Executive, Erik Samuelson said: “We are on top of the world and want to thank the thousands of fans who came out to support us. The Final was the last game of what has been a very long season. The players have worked incredibly hard and went on a well-deserved break immediately after the game, before training starts ahead of next season. When the players return, we plan to organise an event in Wimbledon with the help of the council at the beginning of July, so we can show off our new silverware and invite fans to share in our success.”
