Mitcham gearing up for colourful carnival

Mitcham is gearing up for its annual colourful carnival on Saturday 11 June, with a fun fair, dog show, main stage featuring British Empire Wrestling and Stavros Flatley, Zorb football, a children’s disco tent and lots more on, all set to make the day a huge success.

Mitcham CarnivalThere will be up to 100 stalls for people to browse, packed with a delicious array of food and drinks from all over the world, as well as displays from local charities and businesses.

A main stage with arena entertainment will run throughout the afternoon, and there will be plenty of activities to keep children and adults alike occupied.

Sports Blast, an initiative that looks to promote healthy living for young people in the borough by providing sports opportunities, will be offering children the chance to play football, netball, BMX and other sports throughout the day.

As part of this, the Bubble Football tournament is inviting players aged 14 and above to book a place to avoid disappointment.

And don’t forget the Dog show! Run by one of the Carnival’s sponsors ‘The Vet’ in Morden.

The popular carnival will be held on Saturday 11 June, at Three Kings Piece in Commonside West, Mitcham, between 12 noon and 5pm.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor Brenda Fraser said: “I look forward to enjoying another fantastic year at the carnival.

“Mitcham Carnival is always packed full of activities for people of all ages to take part in and have fun. It is a fantastic way to start the summer.”

Cabinet member for community and culture, Nick Draper, said: “It’s fantastic that the Carnival this year coincides with the Queen’s official 90th birthday, and I’m looking forward to celebrating the happy occasion with the Mayor of Merton and the people of Mitcham.
