Council welcomes news of Waterstones’ return to Wimbledon

Merton Council welcomes the news today that Waterstones will return to Wimbledon later this year.

The council’s cabinet member for regeneration, environment and housing, Councillor Martin Whelton said: “This is really good news for Wimbledon and I know that there will be many people happy to see the bookshop’s return as their presence has been sorely missed. As a council we are committed to seeing a strong retail presence and a diverse range of shops that attract people to Wimbledon. Huge thanks must go to our business improvement district, Love Wimbledon and in particular its Chief Executive, Helen Clark Bell, who has worked tirelessly with Waterstones to bring them back to the town. Love Wimbledon does a great job promoting Wimbledon town centre as a great place to do business, live and shop and has done much to build a thriving and vibrant town centre.”
