Dancing and Jamaican food raises £3,500 for Mayor’s charities

Traditional Jamaican dishes and plenty of dancing raised £3,500 for the Mayor of Merton’s charities at an event attended by more than 150 people.

A buffet of jerk chicken, curried goat and fried plantain were all enjoyed by guests at the Afro-Caribbean themed evening on Friday, August 19.

It was the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Brenda Fraser’s first fundraising event for charities Age UK Merton and The Avanti Club, which offers mental health support.

After dinner at the Tooting and Mitcham Community Sports Club in Morden, guests took to the dance floor to enjoy music by DJ Zain.

The total was raised from ticket sales, donations and a raffle.

Cllr Fraser said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported the night including those people who were unable to attend but generously donated to my charities.”
