Young film-makers who documented their summer at the Acacia Adventure Playground will find out if they’ve won an award at a cinema screening in Leicester Square next week.
The playground in Mitcham Eastfields has been short-listed for the London Adventure Play Awards, which celebrate great adventure play in the capital.
Children were let loose with a Go Pro camera, capturing their friends playing laser tag, dancing at a summer disco, getting crafty and jumping off the adventure playground structure onto soft mats.
The two minute film, edited by playground staff, has been short-listed in the Best Adventure Playground category.
A group of youngsters will travel to Leicester Square with staff on Thursday 27 October to see their film on the big screen alongside other short-listed entrants, before the winners are revealed.
There are six categories including Best Adventure Playground, Play Street of the Year, Beyond London Award and the School Award, with playgrounds and streets from all over the country making the short-list.
Cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Katy Neep said: “I’m delighted the young people from the Acacia Adventure Playground have been short-listed for an award based on their creativity. The adventure playground was the first of its kind to open in the area in 2010 and since then it has gone from strength-to-strength. I wish them the best of luck.”
