Merton Council will be keeping up the tradition of providing free parking to shoppers this Christmas in a bid to encourage people to spend their money at local businesses.

For the fifth year running, there will be free parking at all council-managed car parks* throughout Merton for four weekends leading up to Christmas, plus the Christmas weekend.

Free parking should benefit thousands of Christmas shoppers and will save the average Wimbledon shopper £6 for a four-hour shop on the free parking days.

Leader of the council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: “Many people continue to face financially challenging times and at this time of year many of us could use a few extra pounds to spend on Christmas. We always work to make parking in Merton fair and affordable and hope that enabling people to park for free in council car parks will mean more people will spend their money locally.”
