The general election results for Merton are in

Merton has just declared the general election results for the two constituencies in the borough.

Siobhain McDonagh was elected MP for the Mitcham and Morden constituency for Labour.

Stephen Hammond, representing the Conservative Party, was elected MP for the Wimbledon constituency.

The Mitcham and Morden result was announced at 2.40am on Friday 9 June 2017 and the Wimbledon result was declared 20 minutes later.

These show Ms McDonagh received 33,039, 69% of the total vote, while Mr Hammond received 23,946 votes, 46% of the total vote.

There was an increase in the proportion of Merton residents who voted in this general election, compared to the last one in 2015.

The turnout for Mitcham and Morden was 70.2%, compared with 66% in 2015.

For Wimbledon, the turnout was 77.3%, compared with 74% in 2015.
