To mark this year’s Pride, Merton Council are flying the Rainbow flag from 2-7 July outside the civic centre on London Road.
This year’s Pride event began on 2 July with the theme “Pride Matters”. The Pride Festival in London plays host to 100 plus LGBTQ+ events all across London culminating in a Pride parade taking place on 7 July. Merton recognise the importance of Pride and its contribution to celebrating diversity and promoting LGBTQ+ matters through its work with the LGBTQ+ forum.
Our Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Engagement and Equalities, Councillor Edith Macauley said “We are proud to celebrate Pride by flying the flag. The borough is very diverse, and we work closely with the LGBTQ+ forum to promote LGBTQ+ issues and give the community a voice.”
Merton LGBTQ+ forum is a community group that regularly work with the council, voluntary organisations, local businesses and the community to provide a voice for the borough’s LGBTQ+ community and promote equality. As part of their work they organise various events including a monthly brunch in All Bar One Wimbledon, coffee meetings, an over 50’s drop-in service and annual LGBTQ+ history month in February.
