Stub it out this Stoptober

Stoptober, the biggest mass attempt to quit smoking is back and Merton is calling on all smokers to take part.

The 28-day campaign from Public Health England, which starts on 1 October, encourages and supports smokers across the country to quit smoking for good. Research shows that if you can stop smoking for 28 days, you are five times more likely to stay smoke free for good. Stopping smoking is the best thing people can do for their health and for those around them.

The life-changing journey to quitting is difficult, but with Stoptober you will not be on your own. An app, daily emails, Facebook messenger and lots of encouragement from the Stoptober online community will help and support you to live a smoke free life.

This year Stoptober are providing an online Personal Quit Plan, which helps smokers find and decide what is right for them whether that be face-to-face support, e-cigarettes or nicotine replacement therapies such as patches inhalers or lozenges.

Merton’s Cabinet Member for adult social care and health, Councillor Tobin Byers said: “Quitting smoking is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your health, and the health of everyone around you. We are encouraging all our residents who have wanted to give up smoking to take up the Stoptober challenge, and find a Personal Quit Plan that works for them. One You Merton will be in various locations across the borough to offer support and advice on quitting and if you are unable to make those, why not take advantage of the free online resources and support such as the Stoptober App and Facebook chat to help you quit.”

One You Merton will be present at the following locations promoting Stoptober so come along to find out more!
