A recent study from The Lancet Infectious diseases has found that people who are double jabbed clear the infection more quickly, but their peak viral load – when people are most infectious – is similar to that seen in unvaccinated people. Therefore, unvaccinated people cannot rely on those around them being jabbed to remove their risk of getting infected and then getting seriously ill.
Studies have shown that all three available vaccines offer over 90% effectiveness against hospitalisation with the Delta variant. High levels of protection (over 90%) are also seen against dying from Covid-19 with all three vaccines and against both the Alpha and Delta variants.
Anyone aged 16+ can attend one of the walk-in sessions that take place every day in the borough. So, even if you are not sure about having the vaccine, please come along and talk to a member of staff to get answers to your questions. We currently have walk-in clinics at the Wilson Hospital, Nelson Heath Centre and Centre Court Shopping Centre.
We will only give second doses of either vaccine if it has been at least 8 weeks since your first dose. Please do not ask staff to break this guidance.
If you are eligible for your booster vaccination then you will be invited to book an appointment at a larger vaccination centre, pharmacy, or local NHS service such as a GP surgery.
