16 and 17-year-olds will soon receive two doses of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine

Residents aged between 16 and 17 years old will soon be eligible to take up their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine, 12 weeks after they received their first. The national booking service will be updated with more information on when these appointments are available to book. We expect this to be from Monday 22 November 2021.

Booking your first or second dose of the vaccine is easy, and can be done by visiting the NHS national booking site, or by calling 119. Alternatively, you can head to one of the walk-in centres in the borough.

The decision to offer a second dose to this age group came following advice from The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) on 15 November. The JCVI has confirmed a second dose for those aged 16 and 17 is safe and effective 12 weeks after the first.

Although the risk is higher with age and underlying health conditions, COVID-19 can affect people of any age and the vaccine is designed to reduce the risk of long-term complications and death.
