Changes to safety measures in schools

COVID-19 unfortunately continues to be a virus that we are having to learn to live with. The new recommendations will play an important part in managing the risk of serious illness while the government learns more about the new Omicron variant.

Adults in all schools and pupils in year 7 and above should wear face coverings in communal areas such as corridors. This includes visitors to schools, so make sure you have a mask with you if you need to visit your child’s school.

You’ll need to wear a face covering on the school run too if you’re using public transport or popping into a shop.

And there’s a change to what you’ll need to do if you or your child is identified as a close contact of a suspected or confirmed case of the Omicron variant. If you’re contacted by NHS Test and Trace, you must self-isolate immediately and book a PCR test.
