Haydon Park Lodge Care Home protects staff and residents with 100% COVID vaccination coverage

Haydon Park Lodge, in Wimbledon, provides care and accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care, and those with learning disabilities. Merton care homes, such as Haydon Park Lodge, are working hard to achieve 100% vaccination coverage among staff.

We caught up with the Care Home manager Roger Roland Mark Smith to find out how they achieved 100% vaccination coverage of staff and residents for both the COVID-19 and flu vaccines this year.

Roger Roland Mark Smith said: ”The staff and residents at Haydon Lodge are superb people who see the vaccine as much more than a jab to arm. It’s about seeing family, accessing the community and trying to get back to pre-COVID times.

It’s also about a sense of community and solidarity here that’s bigger than each of us separately. A story that summates this is when the first jab was coming out early 2021, we had a resident meeting and it was very informal with treats. I told residents that the surgery wanted to do over 65’s first and later under 65’s. On their own recognisance they said that we either do it all together or wait. It was a lovely moment of ‘everyone is in it together’ and ‘all for one’.  I told this to my local Surgery, Francis Grove Surgery (who have been superb to us all during this pandemic) and the next week they came out and vaccinated all residents with their consent freely given to them.

To say I was very proud would be an understatement. As for the families of the clients and all the amazing people linked to our Home during COVID, Francis Grove Surgery and Merton Learning Difficulties Team, they have made it much easier for Haydon Park Lodge to get through COVID with a smile and hope for a better future.”
