Would you be able to spot a scammer if they targeted you? You might be surprised.
It’s a misconception that only ‘stupid people’ fall for scams. They are now seriously big business, with billions of pounds being lost to them each year. The people behind them are professional criminals and their tactics are becoming more and more sophisticated.
Despite a welcome drop in crime in Merton during the pandemic, there has been a massive increase in the number and variety of scams circulating. These can include online, doorstep, mail and phone scams.
You can stay one step ahead of the criminals and join Merton Neighbourhood Watch and the council’s Trading Standards teams for an online talk on Thursday 10 February between 6pm-7pm.
You’ll learn how best to protect yourself and loved ones from scammers, and the meeting will also be joined by officers from Cannon Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team.
