Council election results

Merton Council’s election results have all been counted and verified and we can announce that the Labour Party retains overall control of the borough, winning 31 seats out of a possible 57.

The results show that the council’s 57 seats, covering 20 wards, are divided between the political parties as follows:

  • Labour: 31
  • Liberal Democrats: 17
  • Conservatives:  7
  • Merton Park Independent Residents: 2

The overall turnout was for the borough was 40 per cent.

The first meeting of the new full council will be held on Wednesday 25 May, when the Council Leader and the Mayor of Merton will be elected and appointments will be made to council committees.
