The speed limit on Bushey Road between Grand Drive and Martin Way could be changed from 20mph to 30mph.
The speed limit on this section of the A298 was previously 40mph.
Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Councillor Stephen Alambritis, said: “After careful consideration, we think that 30mph would be a more sensible speed limit along Bushey Road, between Grand Drive and Martin Way, given that it is a dual carriageway which is not lined by homes or shops.
“Like Croydon Road in Mitcham, as an entry point to the borough, which is also 30mph, we believe that, due to the characteristics of Bushey Road, the speed limit should revert to 30mph between Grand Drive and Martin Way.
“Changing the speed limit to 30mph would help to improve traffic flow along one of the main trunk roads in the borough, to and from the A3, and will help to prevent tailgating and dangerous overtaking reported on the doorstep by residents during the 2022 local elections.”
