Cannizaro Park receives Green Flag Award as it’s officially recognised as one of the country’s best parks

There are now seven Green Flag accredited sites in the London Borough of Merton, including the newest addition, Cannizaro Park.

Cannizaro Park in Wimbledon has been awarded with the prestigious Green Flag Award, affirming its position as one of the country’s most exceptional parks.

Cannizaro Park joins six other remarkable sites that have retained the esteemed Green Flag status. The parks that have successfully kept or received their Green Flag status are:

  • Cannizaro Park
  • Colliers Wood Recreation Ground
  • Abbey Recreation Ground
  • Dundonald Recreation Ground
  • John Innes Park
  • Sir Joseph Hood memorial Playing Field
  • South Park Gardens

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams that care and maintain these green spaces, ensuring residents can enjoy them.

Councillor Natasha Irons, Cabinet Member for Local Environment, Green Spaces, and Climate, said: “Receiving the Green Flag Award is a tremendous honour for Cannizaro Park and Merton, and greatly reflects all the teams, volunteers and Friends of Parks who’ve worked to make it a great green space.

“I want to thank everyone in our Parks and Green Spaces team and the Friends of Parks groups who work so tirelessly to maintain these wonderful community assets for us all.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
