CCTV equipment attacked in Mitcham – can you help?

CCTV cameras

Merton Council is launching an appeal for information after an incident in Mitcham where CCTV equipment was tampered with, with potentially fatal consequences.
The incident, which took place in September near Sadler Close, saw unknown individuals attempt to rewire the cables inside a CCTV column, which was not used for ULEZ enforcement.
Had they successfully achieved what they attempted to do, the whole column would have become live and anyone who touched it could have been electrocuted and possibly killed.
The council’s CCTV team have checked the footage and have identified a suspicious white van which may have been involved – and local police have been informed.
If you have any information about this or any other incidents, contact the Council on safer.merton@merton.gov.uk. Any information will be passed onto the police who are carrying out an investigation.
