A Closure Order has been placed on a property renowned for criminal behaviour and anti-social behaviour in Mitcham, following an investigation by Merton Council and Police.
The Order was secured from Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court following an escalating series of complaints from neighbours living near the property in Oakleigh Way, Mitcham.
The operation was the result of joint intelligence gathering and information sharing between the Council and Police, and intensive community engagement to prevent fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.
The Order will be in place for three months, prohibiting anyone from entering the property without prior agreement from Police or the Court.
Councillor Eleanor Stringer, Cabinet Member for Civic Pride said: “Merton residents who make their neighbours’ lives a misery can expect the Council and Police to use all powers at their disposal to prosecute. Everybody has the right to quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their home, and for their neighbourhood to be treated with respect.”
