Milestone groundbreaking ceremony marks start of Eastfields regeneration

Work to kick-start the biggest estate regeneration scheme in Merton’s history took place on Thursday, with a groundbreaking ceremony to start construction of Phase One of the Eastfields Estate regeneration project.

The Eastfields Estate redevelopment will provide 800 new homes along with an array of vibrant retail, leisure, office, and community spaces to transform the estate into a dynamic and thriving community hub. Phase One will provide 32 homes by 2025.

Eastfields is the first part of Clarion Housing Group’s £1 billion Merton regeneration project, which will see the replacement of a thousand existing homes and the construction of 1800 new ones. It represents a significant investment in the future of Merton and underscores the Council and Clarion’s commitment to creating vibrant, sustainable communities.

Councillor Ross Garrod, Leader of Merton Council, said: “Breaking ground at Eastfields is a significant moment for everyone living on the estate – marking a crucial step towards delivering the new, good quality homes this community deserves.”

“The regeneration of Eastfields, High Path, and Ravensbury estates is one of the biggest regeneration schemes in the borough’s history and will play an important role in addressing the national crisis in housing at a local level. Merton Council and Clarion share an ambition – to make sure that everyone is able to live in a safe, warm, and comfortable home – and we look forward to seeing that ambition realised.”
