“Police have confirmed that the remains found in the River Wandle yesterday are believed to be those of Sarah Mayhew, a 38-year-old woman from Croydon. Two people known to her are already charged with her murder.
“On behalf of Merton Council, I’d like to extend my condolences to the friends and family of Sarah – my thoughts are with them at this terrible time.
“This is a truly shocking incident, and I know many people in our community have been affected by the news. Police and community safety officers from the council will be in the area to provide reassurance.
“We remain in close contact with the police as they continue their investigation.”
