Improved accessibility to Merton’s public transport hubs will reach a new milestone on 13 September, with the introduction of lift access at Motspur Park station.
Starting with a two week operational testing period, the lifts are planned to become fully operational by the end of September. The news comes following the announcement earlier this month that Colliers Wood has been selected to be part of a feasibility study for step-free access to be introduced as well.
“For many public transport users, accessibility makes the difference between going out or staying in,” said Councillor Stephen Alambritis, Cabinet Member for Transport at Merton Council.
“Step-free access isn’t just about improved accessibility for wheelchair users, but also for those with limited mobility, people with pushchairs or those carrying heavy luggage.
“Greater accessibility has been one of the council’s biggest transport priorities, and will continue to be so that people can enjoy everything Merton has to offer.”
