Encouraging better behaviour on our roads

We are joining councils around London in increasing penalty charges for poor behaviour on the road.

From 7 April 2025, the following charges will apply:

  • Parking penalties at the higher level will increase by £30 to £160, reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days
  • Parking penalties at the lower level will increase by £30 to £110, reduced to £55 if paid within 14 days.
  • Penalties for contraventions of bus lane regulations will increase by £30 to £160
  • Penalties for a moving traffic contravention will increase by £30 to £160

The levels of these charges are set by London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee on behalf of all 32 boroughs and the City of London, so we don’t directly control the amount you pay if you are issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Any revenue raised from PCNs must be reinvested in transport projects around the borough, with a large proportion being used to fund the Freedom Pass scheme, which allows older and disabled resident to travel on public transport for free.
