‘Towards a new London Plan’ – Council Leader’s statement

Councillor Ross Garrod, Leader of Merton Council, said:

Here in Merton, we share the Mayor of London’s commitment to breaking down the barriers to building and delivering the new homes Londoners need.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Mayor of London to deliver the first council houses in Merton in a generation on four brownfield sites across the borough. These houses will become homes to families who desperately need a safe, warm, and secure place to call home.

The Mayor of London’s ‘Towards a new London Plan’ consultation will not directly impact our borough as there is no greenbelt land in Merton. Our award-winning parks will remain unaffected, and as an administration we remain committed to protecting our public parks and investing in their upkeep so that everyone can enjoy them for generations to come.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Mayor of London to deliver the homes people in Merton need, starting with the site at Farm Road in Morden where we recently began preparing for building works to commence.
