Merton Council’s Environmental Health and Waste Services team has co-ordinated the removal of 50 tonnes of illegally dumped waste in Pollards Hill, Mitcham.
The waste had been accumulating for some time at the rear of shops and flats in Lodge Hill Avenue.
It is the responsibility of land owners to remove and dispose of any dumped material but Merton Council decided to intervene due to size and obvious risks of the tip.
Councillor Andrew Judge, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “This action underlines the fact that Merton is committed to stamping out fly-tipping.”
“As well as preventative measures such as CCTV, various collection schemes are now available to dispose of both commercial and household waste.”
