The prestigious Charter Mark Award 2000 for excellence was awarded to the Local Taxation Services section by the Cabinet Office, recognising Merton’s high achievements in modernising government practice.
The dedicated team received their award in February at a ceremony held by The Rt Hon Dr Marjorie (Mo) Mowlem MP at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Ministers, sporting celebrities and members of Merton’s winning taxation team were among those attending the event.
Mike Parsons, Director of Financial Services, said “This award is presented to public service units who provide an excellent service to their customers and continually strive to improve their service through consultation and review.
“The taxation team have proved themselves worthy of the Charter Mark through a detailed, in depth investigation by an independent Charter Mark Assessor. It was also noted that many of the improvements led to significant savings in staff time and the cost of providing the service in line with our own Best Value policy.
“I am delighted to say that another separate survey issued to customers confirmed that council tax payers are very happy with the service provided and I would like to congratulate the team and thank everyone for their consistent hard work”
