Merton Council’s majority group has elected its new Cabinet for the coming year and it features two new faces.
Councillor Andrew Judge, who has represented Figge’s Marsh ward since 1995, is now Leader of the Council and replacing him as Cabinet Member for the Environment is one of the new additions, Councillor Russell Makin.
Councillor Makin represents Pollards Hill ward and joining him as a new face is Councillor Peter McCabe, representing Ravensbury ward, who will become Cabinet Member for Care Services. The rest of the Cabinet positions remain the same:
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Schools Reorganisation is Councillor Danny Connellan. Chair of the Scrutiny Commission is Councillor Joe Abrams, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Support is Councillor Geraldine Stanford and Cabinet Member for Regeneration is Councillor Su Assinen.
Councillor Edith Macauley remains as Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Maxi Martin continues as Cabinet Member for Primary Education and Children’s Services and Councillor Karl Carter is still Cabinet Member for Secondary Education and Lifelong Learning.
Councillor Andrew Judge is looking forward to working with his new Cabinet. He said: “I feel we have a very strong Cabinet and I think everyone involved is extremely keen to start to work as a team on behalf of residents.
“Merton Council has a big year ahead of it and I think we have everything in place to make sure we serve the people of the borough to the best of our abilities.”
